| The Diary is indexed on the names of some 1,490 Ships, both
Allied, Neutral and Enemy and also on the names of around 750 people who appear in it.
The latter are mainly Flag Officers and Commanding Officers of Ships mentioned
in the diary. In the early part of the war not many individuals are named, but by 1943
virtually every HM ship mentioned is accompanied by the name of her Commanding Officer.
Ranks and Titles are in the main those held by the individual at the time of their first
mention in the Diary. Where no Service is given assume RN.
Ships can be assumed to be HMS where no other designation is given |
